Sung Rosary – Second Joyful Mystery - The Visitation of Mary to Saint Elizabeth

This is the second episode of the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as I, Matthaeus Ruber, have meditated upon it through music, singing, and imagery. This work is not intended to be merely a simple illustration of the events narrated in the Gospels, but rather an artistic meditation on the Second Joyful Mystery: the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Elizabeth. The images, musical themes, harmonies, and symbols present in this video represent my personal way of contemplating this mystery and translating it into music. The story resumes immediately after the Annunciation. Mary has joyfully accepted God's plan and already carries within her womb the Savior of the world. Yet together with joy come the first difficulties. The young Virgin realizes that her miraculous pregnancy may give rise to misunderstanding and suspicion. She fears that she will not be believed and that she may be judged by those around her. The images show Mary confiding this mystery to her parents. They believe her words, comfort her, and try to support her. At the same time, they understand how difficult the situation is and advise her to go to Elizabeth, her elderly relative, who has also received a special grace from God. Thus Mary leaves her home and sets out on a journey to Judea. The Hail Marys are accompanied by different musical themes that illustrate the emotions and events of the narrative. Some themes express the Virgin’s trust in Divine Providence; others portray her fears, her hopes, and the courage with which she faces an uncertain future. When Mary arrives at the house of Zechariah and Elizabeth, the music opens into joy. Elizabeth immediately recognizes the work of God and welcomes the young woman with affection and reverence. The child she carries in her womb leaps for joy in the presence of the Messiah, still hidden within the womb of His Mother. In this part of the story, the Magnificat occupies a special place. Through images and music, I have sought to portray the gratitude of this young woman as she contemplates the wonders God has accomplished in the history of salvation. Mary acknowledges that the Lord looks upon the humble, exalts the lowly, and remains faithful to the promises made to His people. At the same time, the video also tells the story of Joseph’s inner struggle. He sincerely loves Mary but cannot understand what has happened. Torn between love and doubt, he suffers deeply and wonders about his future. In this moment of darkness, God intervenes once again through the Archangel Gabriel, who appears to him in a dream and reveals the meaning of these events. The following images depict the birth of John the Baptist and the canticle of Zechariah, which celebrates God's faithfulness and announces the imminent coming of the Savior. In this way, the history of salvation continues to unfold according to the divine plan. After understanding God's will, Joseph goes to Mary. With humility, he asks her forgiveness for the doubts that have troubled him and fully accepts the mission entrusted to him by the Lord. He promises to protect Mary and the Child Jesus, to be a true father to Him, and to safeguard with respect and love the virginity of his spouse. The episode concludes with the marriage of Joseph and Mary. The images portray the union of the two spouses within God's plan and foreshadow the Holy Family that will accompany the early years of the earthly life of Our Lord Jesus Christ. In the final Hail Mary, I wished to portray men and women from every people and nation united in the prayer of the Rosary. The events involving Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, and Zechariah continue to speak to the hearts of people in every age. The mystery concludes with the *Gloria Patri*, which once again directs our gaze toward Christ, the center of the history of salvation and the true protagonist of the Holy Rosary.
