Sung Rosary – Fifth Joyful Mystery - The Finding of Jesus in the Temple

This is the fifth episode of the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, meditated by me, Matthaeus Ruber, through music, singing, and images. This work is not intended to be a simple illustration of the events narrated in the Gospels, but rather an artistic meditation on the Fifth Joyful Mystery: the Finding of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Temple. The images, musical themes, harmonies, and symbols present in this video represent my personal way of contemplating this mystery and translating it into music. The narrative opens in the house of Nazareth. The images show the Child Jesus growing up alongside Mary and Joseph, sharing in the simple life of the Holy Family. We see Him praying, listening to the Scriptures, and taking part in daily work. Through the music, I have sought to express the peace, serenity, and harmony of those hidden years. The Hail Marys are sung using different musical themes, each dedicated to a particular aspect of life in Nazareth. Some accompany Joseph’s work, others the maternal tenderness of Mary, and others still the recollection and prayer of Jesus. As the years pass, the Holy Family sets out for Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. The images show pilgrims traveling along the roads of Judea toward the Holy Temple. The music gradually takes on a more solemn and majestic character, accompanying the twelve-year-old Jesus on His pilgrimage. When the feast has ended, Mary and Joseph begin their journey home. Believing that Jesus is among relatives and acquaintances, they only realize after a full day of travel that their Son is not with them. At this point, the music becomes more anxious and accompanies their growing concern. The following scenes depict their desperate search through the streets of Jerusalem. Through the music, I have tried to portray the sorrow and love of two parents searching for what is most precious to them. After three days, Jesus is finally found in the Temple. The images show Him seated among the teachers of the Law, listening, asking questions, and answering with a wisdom that astonishes all who are present. The music then opens into brighter and more contemplative themes, intended to evoke the mystery of His divine identity. When Mary expresses the sorrow they endured during those days, Jesus replies that He must be about His Father's business. In this episode, His awareness of the mission entrusted to Him by the Father becomes clearly manifest for the first time. The mystery concludes with the Gloria Patri, which lifts our gaze toward the glorious Christ, true God and true Man, in whom all the promises of salvation find their fulfillment. To Him be glory, honor, and praise forever and ever. Amen.
