The Blessed Virgin Mary was the one to whom this divine Salutation was presented, so that the greatest and most important event in the world might be concluded: the Incarnation of the Eternal Word, peace between God and men, and the redemption of the human race. The messenger of this joyful news was the Archangel Gabriel, one of the first princes of the heavenly court. The Angelic Salutation contains the faith and hope of the patriarchs, prophets, and apostles. It is the constancy and strength of the martyrs, the wisdom of the doctors, the perseverance of the confessors, and the life of the religious (Blessed Alan). It is a new song of the law of grace, the joy of angels and men, and the terror and confusion of demons. Through the Angelic Salutation, God became man, the Virgin became the Mother of God, the souls of the just were freed from limbo, the ruins of heaven were repaired and the empty thrones filled, sins were forgiven, grace was given to us, the sick were healed, the dead were raised from the dead, exiles were recalled, the Most Holy Trinity was appeased, and humanity obtained eternal life.
