Although nothing is so great as the divine majesty, nor is anything considered so abject as the human race of sinners, this supreme majesty does not despise our veneration; it is honored when we sing its praises. And the angelic salutation is one of the most beautiful hymns that we can offer to the glory of the Most High. I will sing a new song to you: I will sing a new song to you. This new song, which David foretold would be sung at the coming of the Messiah, is the Salutation of the Archangel. It is an old song and a new song. The old song is that which the Israelites sang in thanksgiving for creation, preservation, liberation from captivity, the crossing of the Red Sea, manna, and all the other blessings of heaven. The new song is that which Christians sing in thanksgiving for the Incarnation and Redemption. Since these miracles are accomplished by the angelic salutation, we repeat this same salutation to give thanks to the Most Holy Trinity for their inestimable benefits. We praise God the Father for having so loved the world that He gave His only Son as Savior. We bless the Son who came down from heaven to earth, who became man, and who redeemed us. We glorify the Holy Spirit who formed in the womb of the Blessed Virgin this most pure body, which was the sacrifice for our sins. In this spirit of gratitude we should recite the angelic greeting, producing acts of faith, hope, love, and thanksgiving for this benefit of our salvation.
