The green leaves of this mystical rose express the joyful mysteries of Jesus and Mary; the thorns, the sorrowful mysteries; and the flowers, the glorious mysteries. The buds of the roses represent the infancy of Jesus and Mary; the open roses depict Jesus and Mary in their passion; and the fully blooming roses show Jesus and Mary in their glory and triumph. The rose delights in its beauty: here are Jesus and Mary in the joyful mysteries; it pricks with its thorns: here are they in the sorrowful mysteries; and it delights in the sweetness of its fragrance: here, finally, they are in the glorious mysteries. Therefore, do not despise my blessed and divine plant; plant yourselves in your souls, by deciding to recite your Rosary. Cultivate and water it, faithfully reciting it daily and doing good works, and you will see that this seed, which now seems so small, will in time grow into a great tree, where the birds of the air — that is, the predestined souls elevated in contemplation — will make their nest and home, so that under the shade of its leaves they may be protected from the heat of the sun, in its height they may be preserved from the most ferocious beasts of the earth, and finally they may be delicately nourished by its fruit, who is none other than the adorable Jesus, to whom be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. Be it done. To God alone.
