The Rosary contains two parts: mental prayer and vocal prayer. The mental prayer of the Holy Rosary is nothing other than the meditation on the principal mysteries of the life, death, and glory of Jesus Christ and his Most Holy Mother. The vocal prayer of the Rosary consists of the recitation of fifteen decades of Hail Marys preceded by the Our Father, while meditating on and contemplating the fifteen principal virtues that Jesus and Mary exercised in the fifteen mysteries of the Holy Rosary. In the first series of five decades, the five Joyful Mysteries are honored and considered; in the second, the five Sorrowful Mysteries; and in the third, the five Glorious Mysteries. Therefore, the Holy Rosary is a sacred text composed of vocal and mental prayer to honor and imitate the mysteries and virtues of the life, death, passion, and glory of Jesus Christ and Mary. 2 Rose Paragraph 9.
