This divine Salutation brings the blessing of Jesus and Mary upon us, for it is an infallible principle that Jesus and Mary magnificently reward those who glorify them: they return the blessings bestowed upon them a hundredfold. Love those who love me, Proverbs 8:17, that you may fill your treasuries for yourselves. This Jesus and Mary proclaimed with a clear voice: We love those who love us, we enrich them and fill their treasuries. He who sows in blessings will also reap blessings: He who sows blessings will also reap blessings (2 Cor 9:6). And is it not right to recite the Angelic Salutation so that we may love, bless, and glorify Jesus and Mary? In each Hail Mary, two blessings are given to Jesus and Mary. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. With each Hail Mary, you render to Mary the same honor that God rendered to her when he greeted her with the archangel Gabriel. Who could believe that Jesus and Mary, who often do good to those who curse them, would heap their curses on those who bless them and honor them with the Hail Mary? The Queen of Heaven, say Saint Bernard and Saint Bonaventure, is no less gracious and honorable than the well-born and virtuous men of this world: she surpasses them in this virtue, as in all other perfections; therefore she will never suffer us to do so. Let us honor her with reverence, that she may return it to us a hundredfold. Mary, says Saint Bonaventure, greets us with grace if we greet her with the Hail Mary: She will greet us with grace if we greet her with the Hail Mary. Who could comprehend the graces and blessings which the greeting and the benevolent look of the Blessed Virgin work in us? At the moment when Saint Elizabeth heard the greeting given to her by the Mother of God, she was filled with the Holy Spirit, and the child whom she carried in her womb leaped for joy. If we render ourselves worthy of the Blessed Virgin Mary's mutual greeting and blessing, we will undoubtedly be filled with grace, and a torrent of spiritual consolation will flow into our souls. 19 Rose
