We honor the perfections of God by reciting each word of the Lord's Prayer. We honor his fruitfulness through the name of the Father, who from eternity begets the Son, who is God as you are, eternal, consubstantial, who is one essence, one power, one goodness, one wisdom with you, Father and Son, who, loving you, produce the Holy Spirit, who is God as you are, three adorable persons, who are one God. Our Father! That is, the Father of the human race through creation, preservation, and redemption, the merciful Father of sinners, the Father who is the friend of the just, the magnificent Father of the blessed. Who are. With these words we admire the infinity, greatness, and fullness of the essence of God, who is truly called Who Is, that is, Who exists essentially, necessarily, and eternally, Who is the Being of beings, the cause of all beings, Who eminently contains in Himself the perfections of all beings, Who is in all things by His essence, His presence, and His power, without being contained within them. We honor his sublimity, his glory, and his majesty with these words: Who art in heaven, that is, who sitteth as it were upon thy throne, exercising thy justice over all mankind. We adore his holiness, desiring that his name may be hallowed. We believe in his providence, praying that he may give us our daily bread. We invoke his mercy, asking him for the remission of our sins. We implore his power, praying that he may not allow us to succumb to temptation. We trust in his goodness, hoping that he will free us from evil. The Son of God has always glorified his Father by his works; he came into the world that he might be glorified by men; he taught them how to honor him, through this prayer which he himself deigned to dictate to us.
